The Langtang National Park is located north of Kathmandu. One can start to walk from Sundarijal in the Kathmandu Valley or take the 8–9-hour bus ride to Syabrubesi. There are many typical Tamang villages with a culture similar to that of Tibet. The main destinations on this trek are Langtang village, and Kyanjin Gompa (3720 m) at the foot of Langtang Lirung (7225m). Other options are to hiking up Tsergo Ri 5000m, the Langtang glacier, a longer trek to the Langshisa Kharka with superb peaks all around.
On clear days the Langtang Trek provides an opportunity to see the Himalayan range from Annapurna, Manaslu, to Ganesh Himal. Shishapangma (8021m) in Tibet lies just behind the Langtang range. This region is quite famous for its rich natural biodiversity with a deciduous forest at lower elevations, a coniferous forest of pine in the upper elevations. Bamboo bushes, various orchids, medicinal plants, rhododendrons flowers, wild animals (like a red panda), and the myriad of birds are other assets of this region.
